We are delighted to welcome Jordan Lowe, SFMA's summer intern. Thanks to the AmeriCorps VISTA program, Jordan is working at all three SFMA markets with a specific focus on community outreach and education and Fresh Bucks at Seattle farmers markets. Here's a little bit about Jordan, in his own words:
I’m Jordan, the newest member of the SFMA team. This summer, I’ll be involved in a lot of things, but primarily I’ll be focused on outreach for Fresh Bucks. Fresh Bucks is an amazing program with iterations all over the country (sometimes under different names) that matches SNAP (food stamp) dollars for fresh produce purchases at farmers markets. Thanks to SFMA and many partner organizations including Pike Place Market Foundation, Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance, Seattle Office of Sustainability & Environment, and the Washington State Farmers Market Association, Washington State received an amazing federal grant to fund and grow Fresh Bucks over the next three years. I’m super excited to be a part of this amazing program.
A little bit about me: I’m a veggie lover (fruit is pretty good, too, I guess). I just finished a very educational stint with Whole Foods Market, working in the produce department, and now am very happy to be expanding my experience in the local food system as an Americorps VISTA Summer Associate, helping it become more accessible to everybody. In the summer, I love cooking vegetables on my grill: squash, any form of broccoli (regular, rabe, Chinese, baby), eggplant, onions, to name just a few. Outside of food, I love hiking, riding my bike, singing, and playing the piano. Stop by and say hi at the market!
