If you, or someone you know, are enrolled in the Senior or Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Farmers Market Nutrition Programs (FMNP), your FMNP checks are accepted by many farmers selling at the Ballard Farmers Market. Just look for the sign, pictured above, hanging from the farmer’s tent.
FMNPs are for income-eligible seniors and women with young children in order to provide them with nutritional education, as well as nutritional supplementation through access to fresh, nutritious local fruits and vegetables from local farmers at farmers markets. The programs, which are funded as a partnership between the state and federal governments, help promote healthier eating habits while supporting local farmers and helping to develop farmers markets.
FMNP checks can be used at farmers markets in Washington from June 1st – October 31st. For more information on FMNPs, including eligibility requirements and how to enroll, check out the Washington State University FMNP Home Page.
